"How to Remember Names": One of the best ways to make a favorable first impression and to get ahead socially or in business is to remember people's names. As a team member you get to work with many people who like to be addressed by their names.
Given below are a few techniques for remembering names:
-
Commit - Begin by making a commitment — a conscious decision — to remember people's names. Don't let yourself off easy, by blaming it on a bad memory.
-
Concentrate - You can only remember what you observe in the first place. If you are distracted or if you aren't paying attention, you won't register the person's name so you can't possibly remember it.
-
Repeat - Repetition helps engrave the name in your memory. Use the name immediately. Repeat it silently to yourself.
-
Associate - Try to make an association between the person's face and an image the name suggests. If you remember visual images most easily, try creating an image based on the name and linking it to some physical characteristic of the person. Some examples are
- Dave needs a shave. - Latrice is Patty's niece. - Martin Peck is a pain in the neck. - Suzanne Patterson has sweaty palms.

i About significance of turkey on Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving is a traditional North American holiday to give thanks at the conclusion of the harvest season usually celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Thanksgiving meals are traditionally family events with certain kinds of food amongst which turkey is the most featured item. There are a couple of stories on how turkey became a favorite meal on Thanksgiving. The Native Americans taught the early settlers of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts(called "Pilgrims") to catch eel and grow corn, without which they might not have survived in the New World. To reciprocate, the settlers set apart a holiday immediately after their first harvest in 1621 and invited the Wampanoag Indians to join them in an autumn celebration of food, feasting, and praising God lasting for 3 days. Turkey was served during this feast since it was found in abundance.
One story tells of how Queen Elizabeth of 16th century England was chowing down on roast goose during a harvest festival. When news was delivered to her that a Spanish ship had sunk on its way to attack her beloved England, the queen was so pleased that she ordered a second goose to celebrate the great news. Thus, the goose became the favorite bird at harvest time in England. When the Pilgrims arrived in America from England, roasted turkey replaced roasted goose as the main cuisine because wild turkeys were more abundant and easier to find than geese.
