650-996-5017,FZHOU89@GMAIL.COM Today, we join with thousands of others in San Francisco, and around the globe, to raise our voice in protest as the eve of the Beijing Olympics draws near. We speak in chorus with those who cannot, or who fear to do so, in China, and everywhere, to remind ourselves that freedom's arc has not yet encompassed all. We speak to remind each other that all these are still happening in today's China: summary executions, prison labor, forced abortions, etc. China is still a society where basic freedoms of conscience such as freedom of speech, freedom of religious practice, and freedom of assembly are severely restricted. There are more journalists in prison in China than any other country of the world. While the world has been hoping that the Olympic will help China improve its human rights record. The exact opposite has been confirmed by the events in the past several weeks. Remember Hu Jia, human rights advocate, friend of the AIDS suffers, environmentalist, sentenced to 3 and half years in prison on April 3 . His Wife Zeng Jinyan and four month old daughter Hu Qianci, are both under house arrest. Remember Yang Chunlin, 5 years in prison for linking human rights to Beijing Olympic. Remember Wang Bingzhang, life in prison for being leader of Chinese Democracy Movement. Remember Shi Tao, Remember Lu Gengsong, Remember Yang Tianshui, Remember Xu Wang Ping, Remember Liu Xianbin, Remember Wang Sen. Remember Zhu Yufu and Zhu Mao, father and son on trial today for Zhu Yufu's role as a founder of China Democratic Party. Remember thousands of the prisoners of conscience. Remember Jiang Jielian, one of hundreds shot and killed by the government in Beijing in June of 1989. Remember Tiananmen Mothers, still seeking truth and justice after their loved ones died 18 years ago. We remember them, remind the world of them with our actions today, and look forward to the day when China's inclusion in the world community extends to sharing the basic freedoms we hold dear and exercise now.
