【mess的常见搭配和相关词组】
clean up the mess
首先，想要表示“清理脏乱”的话就可以搭配clean up，或者也可以用clear up喔，除了能表示清扫实际的脏乱，也能表示处理问题、麻烦，例如：
My mom commanded me to clean up the mess in my room.（我妈命令我打扫我的房间。）
Who’s going to be the next managing director to clear up the financial mess?（谁会成为下一个总经理来整顿公司一团乱的财务？）
in a mess
如果要表示处于“一坨乱、乱糟糟”的状态的话，就可以用in a mess，那除了用在环境很脏乱外，也可以表示处于困境、麻烦中，例如：
After a night of partying and drinking, Will’s house was left in a mess.（一整夜饮酒狂欢后，Will的房子变得一团乱。）
Unfortunately, our economy is in a mess now.（很不幸地，我们现在的经济乱糟糟的。）
make a mess
想要说“制造脏乱”的话，就可以用 make这个动词喔，举个例子：
The hotel guests made a mess in the bathroom. I wonder what they have been doing all night long.（旅馆旅客把浴室弄得一团乱。不知道他们整晚都在干嘛。）
那我们也可以用make a mess of(doing) something来表示搞砸某件事情，例如：
For a long time, I made a mess of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.（我有很长一段时间无法好好维持工作和生活的平衡。）
Susanne always feels she’s made a real mess of her marriage, but, actually, no one is to blame for that.（Susanne总是觉得她一手把婚姻搞砸了，但事实上这并非任何人的错。）
mess with something/ someone
那 mess除了当名词外，也可以当动词喔，我们可以用mess with something来表示“未经允许乱动、乱碰某物”，例如：
Please don’t mess with my private collections. You can never afford one of them even with your life savings.（别乱动我的私人收藏。即使用你一生的积蓄也买不起我任何一件收藏。）
那如果后面加上人的话，就可以表示“招惹、打扰某人”，例如：
That group of boys is dangerous. If I were you, I wouldn’t mess with them.（那群男孩非常危险。如果我是你，我不会招惹他们。）
mess around
那我们也可以用mess around这个词组来表示“消磨时间、打混摸鱼”，例如：
Stop messing around and get on with your book report, Adam!（别再混了，赶快写你的读书报告，Adam！）
It’s normal that people mess around a little at the office.（在办公室混水摸鱼是很正常的喔。）
