美国总统特朗普最新在其社交媒体Twitter帐户留言，说：“与中国的谈判已经开始！除非延长，否则90天是由我们在阿根廷举行的精彩和非常温暖的晚宴开始。”
他又说：“贸易代表莱特希泽(Bob Lighthizer)将会与财政部长姆纽钦(Steve Mnuchin)、国家经济委员会主席库德洛(Larry Kudlow)、商务部长罗斯(Wilbur Ross)，以及白宫贸易顾问纳瓦罗(Peter Navarro)密切合作，看看是否真的有可能与中国达成真实协议。如果可以，我们将把它完成。中国是要立即开始采购美国农产品。中美领导人都想达成协议，这是很有可能做到的。”
他亦提到：“不要忘记我是‘关税人’，当有人或国家想占我们国家巨大财富的便宜，我会让他们付出代价...不过，如果能够与中国达成公平协议，这协议将会完成所有我们要做的全部事情，我将很乐意签署。让谈判开始吧！让美国再次强大！”
特朗普的言论实证两国定下90天的贸易谈判限期由上周六(12月1日)已开始。
莱特希泽是在1980年代，为了要“封杀”日本对美国的进口威胁，曾使用过配额及抽高关税政策的官员，与现时特朗普警告中共同出一辙。他早于2010年已向美国国会指控，中共正在威胁美国经济，是传统“鹰派”。
